EBENEZER CEMETERY

Formerly known as the Morris Cemetery

East Fork Township

Burials about 1850 – still in use in 1980’s

Location: NE ¼, SW ¼ Section 13, T3N-R1W, well kept with gravel road running north from township road to cemetery. Land deeded by John Morris for cemetery with proviso that no charge be made for burials and land used for no other purpose. Cemetery was officially known as Morris Cemetery until after 1900. Ebenezer Methodist Church was just north of cemetery until about 1880. Edward (Todd) CROWDER reports that his mother-in-law, Mrs. Laura WORTMAN (formerly Laura CARTER) could walk through the cemetery reciting the names of persons in many graves that have no markers. He estimated 50 to 75 unmarked graves in the cemetery. "I’ve always regretted that we never made a plat and entered the names before she died" Mr. Crowder related. Copied April, 1976 by H. Wilbert Quick. Updated years later.
