He was born Nov. 24, 1900, in Carlyle, son of Guy C. and Annie (Lietze) Barkley. He married Frances Gibson in Chicago on Sept. 10, 1927, and she preceded him in death on May 4, 1993.
He is survived by a son, James Barkley, in Knoxville, Tenn.
Mr. Barkley had lived in Carlyle since 1990.
He was employed by First national Bank in Chicago for 35 years, retiring
in 1961. He later was a real estate salesman. He graduated
from the University of Illinois in 1924. During his senior year in
college he was president of Alpha Gamma chapter of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
He was former treasurer of Homewood Community Church.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in the Blessed Catherine
Casper Chapel at Carlyle Healthcare Center, with the Rev. John Vidakovich
officiating. Interment will be in Carlyle Cemetery.
Friends may call at the chapel Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until time of service.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association and will be received at Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle, which is in charge of arrangements.
